Hey folks,

Any help/tips in getting this up and running again? Because it's a stake loop, it needs to be very strong. Sewing appears to be easy enough, however, I have no skills in the field and no sewing machine.

Rainy Pass repair in Seattle— or just about any auto/marine upholstery shop in your area.

$20 fix?

Do you think the whole corner needs reinforced with dyneema or something?

I would agree that the tear needs reinforcement up that seam. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to fix this. Sew the strap up that seam an inch or two longer beyond the tear. Tear itself could be repaired with a bit of tenacious tape. Although if I were near a repair shop, I'd consider using that too.

If you need someone to sew the repair on the rip, I would do it for free if want to pay for shipping both ways.

Send me PM if I can help.

I'm curious how this happened? If it was due to weather, I bet you have one heck of a story to tell.

Thanks a bunch. I think I'm just going to take it into a local tailoring shop and ask them. If it doesn't pan out, then I'll hit you up.

It was me being stupid. Last Saturday night at Beehive Lakes in Northern Idaho I had it all come at me. Thunderstorm, high wind, hail, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. In the morning I was rushing digging myself out with no gloves (wasn't prepared for snow), and I grabbed above the corner to flip the snow/ice off a bit to get to the stake, and it snapped right off. It broke really easily. So, now I will be making sure to not to that stupid move again.

Wait, it snapped off from being frozen?! Huh, I wouldn't have known better.

I've only been on a few winter backpacking trips, all in deep snow, and while I have seen ice accumulate around the perimeter of the shelter and at the stakes, I've never dealt with that sort of thing nor heard about it. Interesting.

Thanks for sharing.
