Many use an odor barrier bag for storing food at night. The standard outside dimensions of the OPSAK are 12.25" x 20.75". Is this a good size for an odor barrier bag or would you prefer larger or smaller if you could get it? What size would you want?

Please try to keep the focus on dimensions only.

"Anyone have an opinion?"

Yes, but I don't have the dimensions at hand. You might want to check out the Nylobarrier bags that were sold by Lite-Trail.com before they folded up shop. They are lighter(.4 oz), larger, and easier to seal(and keep sealed) than the large OP Sack. They are light enough that I double bag when using them, one inside my stuff sack to hold the food, and one outside the stuff sack which I pull over the stuff sack after I have washed my hands. The two of them together are still lighter than a large OP Sack, and a lot less fussy. Worth investigating, IMO/IME.

Peter,

In my experience, any more than a few days food in the 12 x 20 OPSak creates an unwielding, difficult to pack, difficult to seal, football shaped lump. The 28 x 20, meant for panniers, is useless for backpacks (tried it). If it was rotated to 20 x 28, it would be much better for packing. I've since switched to the LiteTrail NyloPro 20 x 36 inside a matching silnylon sack.

As Tom said, lighter and much less fuss.

I use the medium size bags, which are designed to fit inside a stuff sack of bear canister. They are 14" X 24" and form a cylinder 8" in diameter. Weight is .45 oz.
