Just finished up a report on an exciting long distance adventure in the Midwest. The adventure included a 135 miles Isle Royale Loop, Superior Hiking, Border Route, Kekekabic, and Pictured Rocks Lakeshore Trails thruhikes and a 50 mile Porcupine Mountains Loop. Being from Michigan it was great to explore trails close to home that are truly spectacular. It's easy to forget about great hiking opportunities nearby. Getting to see familiar country in a new way was a rewarding experience!

Eric….My hat goes off to you in many ways….SUPER ENDEAVOR
Traveled many of the paths you have mentioned and need to finish up on the Superior Hiking Trail…at 74 time is running out with my health issue.
Very NICE blog PRESENTATION…..
(What type of camera did you use?)
Very cool. THose are some outstanding pictures!
Thanks Ken and Jack! I used a Canon S100. It's still pretty light and has RAW capabilities. I got it on a black Friday deal a couple years ago. I would take videos but battery life is iffy for videos. I take two extra batteries and can usually make it through a week without any problems. I ended up with over 4000 pictures. Wishing you the best, Ken, as you fight this health issue.
Awesome pics. What time of year did you do pictured rocks? Hoping to tackle that one next year.
Thanks Jason! It was the first week in October. Temps were just starting to get cold, almost near freezing at night. The fall colors weren't quite at their peak near the shore.
Hope you have a great hike! It's one of those hikes that looks even better in person than it does in pictures!
Eric,
Great photos. I've also made some of the same hikes in Michigan as you, but you've given me some ideas for Minnesota hikes. The Superior Hiking Trail looks particularly interesting.
If you haven't hiked in the Pigeon River area near Vanderbilt yet, maybe give it a look. One of my favorite places in the lower peninsula to hike. It's hard to top the Jordan River Pathway though.
Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Shawn! I'll have to check the Pigeon River out. I think I remember reading a trip report about that looked fun!
The SHT is a great trail! Some view the JMT, Colorado Trail and Long Trail as the mini Triple Crown (parts of the PCT, CDT, and AT) but if you add the NCT, the SHT relates similarly as a spectacular, while shorter thru hike!
