14. Greyhound no longer has service to the eastern Sierra Nevada! [2002]

The ESTA bus stop is at the Greyhound station in Reno. So you could connect from a Greyhound bus — or from AMTRAK, which has a station 0.5 miles away. And the RNO airport is a cheap taxi ride away (4 miles).

I think the AMTRAK and ESTA schedules are bass-ackwards, though. The Eastbound train arrives an hour or so *after* the only Southbound ESTA bus departs.

Last summer we used Paul at http://eastsidesierrashuttle.com/. Both coming and going for the JMT (plus he kept our car for us while we were gone).

It worked out great. Plus, he is licensed as a commercial driver and has insurance as one, too, so (god forbid) if anything were to happen… at least you'd have "deep pockets" to pay your claim.
