I'm not sure if this is standard protocol but a lot of forums I frequent like having the newbs introduce themselves. I've lived in Montana off and on for about 12 years and don't think I'll be leaving anytime soon. I'm an avid hunter and fisherman but most of my experiences are "car camping" type of hiking where I can bring as many comforts as I want and never get more than 2-3 miles from camp. I'm considered "clydesdale class" but will hopefully be down grading myself to a smaller frame class.
With a career change, I got to experience longer backpack trips as part of our duties. We still were allowed many creature comforts since our gear was packed in by mule but a lot of our stuff is lighter so we can backpack into remote areas if needed. Half the stuff I never knew even existed like the SteriPen system, titanium sporks, and backpack quilts. I never thought I could afford some of this light gear but it turns out a lot of it can be made or traded.
I've been reading these forums for a few weeks and decided I needed to join. While a lot of my updgrades to lighter gear will be designed for hunting; this forum is helping me narrow down the gear that I'd like to build or purchase for my next adventure. I already like the idea of Enlightened Equipment's Revelation Quilt.
