So, I'm looking to make a fully featured 0° bag, and just had a few questions. The basic construction I think I have down, and have enough design skill to execute, but there are just a few details I was wondering if anyone knew of any patterns/resources for:

1) V Block Baffles – The design I'm looking to do would require a V Block or Side Block baffle. I'm having trouble visualizing how this could get sewn in

2) Hood – I've never done a hood!

3) Draft Tube – Same as the hood, never bothered, but for this bag it's probably necessary

Normally I'd forego the hood, and maybe the draft tube, but the bag is for my partner, so most of the comforts are non-negotiable (plus it'd be a fun construction challenge!).

Thanks for any help! I'm super new to the site, so I apologize in advance if any of this has been covered

Welcome Pete,

There is a good write up by Brandon Swihart (apologies if I butchered the name) that will help you visualize the hood and draft tube. I've often thought about how to implement a V baffle on the side and couldn't think of a painless way to do it. So, I never used one. I would probably design around it unless your mind is made up.. Meaning tighter baffle spacing, longitudinal baffles, or a slight overstuff of the down.

The last one I made used V baffles for the entire baffle system. Yeah, that was painful.

Thanks for the info! Brendan's article (http://outlivingblog.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/mummy-bag-construction/ for those curious) does have a lot of valuable information/photos which are sure to help.

As far as the side baffle, I'm thinking of doing one sew-through baffle running the whole non-zip side, then lining that with a draft tube. Would be a bit of extra material, but might make construction a little easier
