Hey all

I am heading to the white mountains this weekend from florida to do the pemi loop counterclockwise. I think my gear is good to go, but mountain-forecast.com is suddenly showing the temps dropping into the teens. It's exciting, but I want to be prepared so I'd like you all to take a look a my gear list and provide me with suggestions. I tend to sleep and hike hot.

Also anyone have a gpx file for the pemi loop? Was going to get one off everytrail but it looks like they are down.

you can get the GPX file from that.

The only weird navigation thing is coming off Garfield was a bit odd if i remember. the rest is super highway trail with good signage.

i don't remember the last time i was up there backpacking this late. If i was going i'd bring my 20* quilt and wear my insulation if I needed more but I sleep cold.

Garfield campsite also has a nice shelter with 2.5 sides. so bivy, quilt, liner.. you'll probably be fine.

Got the GPX file. Thanks so much. Temps going up a bit with some snow. It's going to be interesting!

Well, Chris is getting a good test of his system. Accuweather says that the low for tonight in the town he is near will be 26F 1-2000' below where he wanted to stay.

luckily he should have made it to this shelter and should be good to go in his bivy/quilt.

I wish it had been that warm!I think it was in the teens. 2 liter water bitty frozen solid. Still hiking got flume and liberty to go. Hope to be out by 8. I am really dragging

Yea, that's why i said in town.. a few 1000' makes things colder.

You got it.. once you get down off flume the osseo trail kinda rolls along.. then the last 1.5 of the wilderness/Lincoln trail you is flat and you can zone out. Eat something sugary to give a boost.

can't wait for a report and pics

made it through. Couldn't even begin to imagine how hard this "trail" was. It was like climbing up and down a waterfall pretty much the whole way. Great pics at the top though. Attached is pano from top of mt Garfield. More to come.

I told you it was 10k elevation gain ;) that should have been a hint! And yea, we don't do switchbacks up here.

honestly, those are some of the more reasonable trails in the Whites. going down S. Twin and then back up Garfield is rough.. then they call the ridge going up Lafayette "the Agonies" with the false peaks.

I could take you on some real leg killers. buahaha.

nice job getting it done in some cold weather. can't wait for the pictures and report

Jake–what would you recommend as real leg killers? I'm always looking for new challenges in the Whites.

short but very steep.. Zeacliff trail from Ethan pond up to Zealand. Kings Ravine, Huntingtons ravine, Osgood trail to Madison, N/S Hancock.. whichever you choose to do first, both are steep. Carrigain in snowshoes..

Lots of the trails on this list (my new list since i finished NH48 and did the Presi in a day and Pemi in a day) definitely the presi. area ones.

Those look like a great starting point–thank you! My legs are craving more abuse after doing a one day presi (with bike shuttle over Jefferson Notch) two weekends ago and a one day pemi last weekend :)
