Yes, when you have a camera on a tripod at a strange angle, the orientation sensor inside the camera body can get fooled. However, that is simple to correct at the RAW stage or even in the JPEG file.
The worst way to do it is to have your camera pointed straight up or straight down.

Nice here is mine. Its really light out in the parking lot by my apartment. Not the best.
Shot with my A6000 with a Minolta 50mm f1.4 stopped at 2.4
I forgot i had a 200mm prime that i didn't use…oh well.. some other time!
I opened it up all the way but had some glaring from a nearby parking light get in the way. Didn't have my tripod. I set it on our apartment sign with a lens cap underneath the lens for the angle.
