Hello BPL:

This is a commercial announcement from Sierra Designs.

Tomorrow, Sierra Designs will be hosting another LIVE event, this time discussing clothing layering strategies. Specifically, we will challenge the traditional "base layer-insulation-shell" system that the mainstream market continues to push. In addition, we will explain why we don't think you should spend money on fancy waterproof-breathable membranes, and why we think the "hard shell" should be demoted from it's place of prominence in the layering system.

The event will take place at 12:30 Pacific Time. You can register to view the event by copying and pasting the following into your browser: http://sierradesigns.yourbrandlive.com/c/apparel/

Finally, as usual we will give a sneak-peek at some not-yet released items, including an 11 ounce rain suit (yes, top and bottom) that we hope will change the way you think about your rain gear. And as always, we will offer a discount for attendees, so if you have been needing to upgrade to a DriDown puffy, this will be a great time to check us out.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Dave:

Good news! While we are not able to fulfill web orders in Canada, we have figured out a way to provide the "thank-you discount" in Canada for this and future LIVE events. Canadians (and all international customers) will need to place their orders by phone, providing the code to the agent. You will be responsible for shipping and applicable import taxes.

While I will not be able to attend, I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say!

Those chaps look great – and the weight is ideal. 11 oz for the top and bottom is very good.

Moved to Gear Deals as it is definitely commercial.
No problems with the idea though. Interesting.

The 30% off code was SDLIVE3 until tomorrow midnight.

I am already using an OR Echo baselayer, an R2, A Westcomb Crest Hoody and poncho/tarp so I already breathing well.

A couple of interesting ideas here, I thought — particularly

1) The way a backpack's hipbelt is covered by the new rain jacket. For those who like to keep their camera in their hipbelt pocket, no more worrying about it getting wet! Nice thinking there.

2) The dual-purpose intent behind the stow pocket on the down jacket (turns it into a pillow). Again, good thought process behind that.

Most BPL'ers already use their wind shirts extensively, so that part of the video is not new for us, but for the "average" hiker who has never tried a wind shirt, it could be a revelation.

I like a lot of SD's ideas…my only problem with the products is that they tend to run a bit on the heavier side (new rain suit excepted). Sometimes it may be worth the extra weight to me; sometimes not.
