I have a uniqlo ultralight vest, bought late last year while in Japan for about $30. Sensationally good, especially for the price. I hazard the fabric is 1.1oz nylon or only a shade heavier, the down is at least 500 loft, I can't feel feathers in it so there can't be many. Compresses to nothing, keeps me warm towards zero by itself. Mine is a zip version though and I can remember seeing this snap button version before. Buttons would save a couple of grams. This one you've posted also doesn't have a collar; the collar on mine is quite good and makes a big difference. For me, it would be quite a niche use product having a collarless down vest. If you are happy with buttons and no collars and the prices is cheap its a no brainer, the build quality and materials are perfectly good.

Looking at the online link, they still make and sell the zippered, collared version. I think you'll get a lot more mileage out of them. Extra weight would be about half an ounce, but you'd get a few degrees more out of it and better performance in wind, easier adjustability.

Just figured I would revive this thread. Can't believe I hadn't found these vests/jackets sooner!

I read that the women's medium vest–in the compact variety–is only 72g! If the men's is even close to that I'll be super stoked. I never zip my jackets up all the way, and supposedly the compact is ~2" shorter to allow it to fit under layers better. Perfect for me. I went with the medium. I'm 6'2", ~175ish, medium shirts are usually pretty form fitting. Wanted to get this fairly form fitting as well.

I ordered one yesterday, it shipped today. I got it on sale for 39 bucks and 7 dollars shipping, looks like it went back up to 49, but when compared to others in the category its still a steal.

Should be getting my hands on it next Thursday, so I'll know more of the quality/warmth. I wasn't looking for something too warm, I overhead a lot. Pretty sure this is going to be exactly what I needed.

Michael, I thought all the kids jackets were poly-fill. Or are your kids big enough that they're wearing adult sizes?
