I was looking for a close cell foam pad as a future replacement for the one that I have had for a few years, but it looks like many of the places I used to go no longer sell them.

Specifically, I was looking for a 3/8 inch full length pad.

Gossamer Gear was my go to place and they only have the torso pad and 1/8" ccf.

MLD does not have them either.

Seems like air mattresses are taking over.

However, I don't like them at all….guess I like sleeping on nails and rocks.

Any suggestions on where I can buy a CCF like what I had previously purchased from Gossamer Gear?

Warm, light, and waterproof….*sigh*

Thanks!

Tony

Not sure about the GG ones, but I keep sewing the Ridgerest and the Zlite at flea markets for a dollar or two…

The ridgerest is still the best sleeping pad ever made. I was glad to see Cascade Designs bring back the non-aluma version, as that silly coating just wears off after a year or so.

I've seen the Ridgerest at large superstore chains like Meijer lately.

The Ridge Rest is sold online but can be found in "big box stores" such as Sports Authority fairly easily.

The "blue foamer" is also online and in XYZMarts.

Part of the More Comfort movement I guess, plus I bet the markup on an inflatable is huge in comparison to CCF.

My local CVS has a 3/8" soft blue one available during summer months.

I tried to order some more 1/2" foam today, but now they require a $1000 minimum. That is a lot of foam pads to store.

Tony, Nunatak still sells the Luna pad in evazote. It is 78" but easy enough to cut down. This is identical to the older GG NightLite pads 'cept a bit longer.

To everyone who replied,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Yeah, relatively slim pickings for options.

Agree that it is likely that there is more profit to be made selling the air mattresses.

Plus, weight wise, some of the air mattresses are getting into the weight range of the foam pads.

Guess I better grab a pad before they are harder to find.

Appreciate the collective knowledge here!

I don't see the problem.

REI carries four:
Ridge Rest and Z Lite and ALPS Mountaineering Foam Mat 375 and Standard Blue Foam.

Bily,

I was thinking that the ones at REI might be heavier and bulker than the Gossamer Gear one that I am trying to replace.

I know, I know….crazy BPL people!

Jim,

Okay….I am officially an idiot…I mean more than the usual "male" idiot.

I did not realize that ALL of Gossamer Gear's Pad are now lumped together in the category of "thin light".

I thought that the thin light specifically referred to 1/8".

That or something recently changed on their website.

Guess it pays to actually click on stuff and to read carefully…..*chuckles*

I also am looking to replace my closed cell foam pad, a foam ground sheet from Sukula46 1/8" thick and large enough to cover the floor of my Hexamid twin at only 4.1 oz.

GG foam 1/8" pads are much heavier but much smaller.

Does anyone know of a source of low density 1/8" thick EVA CF? I am looking for something like 50" by 80" and even better if it is only about 4 oz.

I have had good success using this as my ground pad and structure in my pack.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Cliff
