It was good to meet the source of our water information.
I am a life member. I have been backpacking over 40 years so there is no reason to think I am going to stop until I can physically no longer do it.
One of the kids with me the day I met you was my son. He is 12 years old and I think has surpassed me as a hiker/backpacker under all conditions. When he was 11 years old he surpassed me on the hard cardio hikes (such as San G via Vivian) but his legs would tire at the low 20 miles while I could hit upper 20s. Today I do not know what his limits on mileage in a day would be but I suspect he may be able to get close to 40 in a day. At the beginning of this year he did 22 miles with full pack and ~4800 gain in a day and he is able to go further now. I am assuming he will always enjoy hiking/backpacking.
So when I am too old to be backpacking I can still stay in tune via this site and have something to discuss with my son as well as reminisce about all the great hikes/backpack trips that we did together (Various Sierra treks, Grand Canyon R2r, San G, San J, Baldy, Telescope, etc). Next year I want to add JMT to our list. I had a permit for this year but the wife had major foot surgery that made it so that we did not attempt it.
