I need to pick a few brains. I am in the market for a new tent. Here are my absolute requirements: (I currently have a single wall cuben fiber)
1.Enough head open to at lest kneel (I am 5'4").
2.Free standing.
3.Under 2 lbs. if possible.
4.Enough room to store my pack.
5.A fly because of condensation issues here in Minnesota.
I don't know if all these requirements are possible, but if someone knows of a tent out there that would work, I would greatly appreciate the input. If someone has a tent, let me know how you like it.
I am overwhelmed with all the choices…….:=)

The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 comes close to what you want, except it's a little over 2 lbs, and the fly would be very crazy in the wind if not staked or guyed out in some way in at least two places. I've used one quite a bit the past few years. I like it, but it's certainly not a magic solution to condensation issues.

If you want some alternative solutions, you could consider an 8×10 foot rectangular tarp with a net tent.

Another alternative option would be a waterproof bivy bag with bug netting. Add a very small tarp over the head area, and this meets all 5 criteria! :D

I really like going with a straight tarp whenever possible, and adding a net tent makes it viable for competing with bugs. Also being from MN, personally I'd say bypass a smaller bug bivy. In my experience, yes, you won't get bit, but they also buzz in your ears the whole time so it's still really hard to sleep. The farther away the mosquito's are from me, the better.

Thanks guys for the input, but I still would rather have a free standing tent instead of a bivy, pyramid, etc. I have a BearPawd which I like because of the head room and room for all my gear, but……I always need more room to set up because of the guy lines and it's a pain to set up when the weather is crappy. Free standing tents just look easier. I could be wrong.

Nemo has some new tents coming out for 2015, some of which are freestanding. The 2 person Blaze has two doors, two vestibules, is freestanding, double walled and will weigh a minimum of 910g or a smudge over 2 lbs.

no perfect solution
