Does anyone own or use these poles from MLD? Tell me about them. How well is the locking mechanism? How do they compare to BD or GG poles? Will they work with my patrol shelter and/or other tarps? Thanks..

I don't have these poles, so I can't comment directly, but my wife has Komperdell Carbon Contact C3s, which use the same locking mechanism as the adjustable part of the Ultralite Vario 4s and has no problems at all.
Komperdell also produce a shorter version of the Ultralite Vario 4, which extends from 105-125 cm as opposed to 120-145 and saves 7 grams! There's also the slightly heavier Carbon Expedition Vario 4 with an aluminium bottom section for greater protection.
