I have had the Duomid XL a few months now and have used it for a couple of brutal weekend hikes and about 15 nights of base camping for hunting or fishing. For the type of outings I get to do regularly, about half are hikes, half base camping, it works equally well.. I have used it a few times with my wife and dog, (dog in the vestiblule) and I even take the side nearest the back wall (I'm 6'3, 225lbs) I feel like there was more than enough room for the three of us. The design allows you to have the front open without getting your gear wet.
Truth be told however, I got it for Solo use. It is cavernous for one but it still easily stuffs in my front pack pocket without distending it too much. I can take my front wheel off my bike and it fits inside without infringing on the sleeping area. and it keeps my longbow/fletching and hunting bag dry and out of my way.
The original Duomid (which I loved) was a little tight lengthwise in winter when pitched low over tall pad.
I pack pretty light these days and have used minimalist shelters galore. While at 26.5 oz (with guys)the Duomid XL might seem to be overkill for solo use, having a place to hang out, cook, and sort gear in bad weather makes me think that I wont need any more shelters for a long time. (except maybe one in cuben)

Note the amount of space behind the pole…

Yeah, I'd buy the Hapi, I think, if shipping time where not so long. I retract my comment about it being a lot more expensive.

I'd about decided on SpeedMid, but MLD's wait-time is now 3 weeks, so it's not going to give me much time to play with it before my spring outings. The Oware looks like it'd come quicker, but the height troubles me a bit – of course it's a good thing, but it also means I have to find a pole-extender that would work with my pole and add the weight of it. (Their stand-alone tarp poles are shockingly heavy). The carbon-fiber ones from Ruta Locura look interesting though.

John,

Email Ron and tell him when your trip is and when you'd like to receive it and he will tell you if he can do it. I won't guarantee you he would do it for you, but I've asked him to if he could bump up a wait time for me more than once and he obliged every time. I assume if he has your color/fabric in stock he will almost always meet a reasonable deadline if he can.

Re. MLD delivery, 3 weeks definitely works for me, it just makes me a little nervous.
