I wonder how well those nylon hooded jackets that have the mesh on the inside that places like Wal-Mart and Target sell for about $18 actually do. I know they should not be used as a rain jacket but they could probably pass for a wind jacket at 9-10oz but how breathable are they?

I received one of those a few years ago for my birthday from a well meaning relative.

I wore it in north east Ohio for an easy day hike in mid October. The temperature was about 60 degrees that day.

I'm not a really bad sweat hog, but I was miserable in the jacket.

JMO but I've found that the cheap jackets like Walmart carries don't breathe well at all.

I think they're made to be used for more stationary things like fishing, even though it listed hiking as a use on the tag.
