I learned that Bobbie Foster's Wilderness First Responder (WFR) class at UCSF this fall has a number of spots open. The class is spread over 5 weekends (80 hours), so it's much more accessible than the usual 9-10 day straight WFR courses.
This is a great way to build up your backcountry first aid skills, either for yourself or if you'll be leading any trips. I did this class last fall, and felt it was far superior to the basic 16 hour WFA classes, as you're able to dig deeper into topics and get much more hands-on practice.
Further details:
3-year WFR certificate, 2-year ASHI CPR Pro cert, $450 cost.
Dates are October 18-19, 25-26, November 8-9, 15-16, 22-23.
