Hello,

I am just wanting to get some ideas about the possibility and challenges of a southbound thru-hike of the AZT starting end of October/first of November. I know this is not optimal but it's the way the timing has worked out for me.

The obvious concerns are cold and snow but I'm also wondering about the general state of water sources at the end of the year before the winter has had a chance to refill them.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Josh

Just wanted to add that I have experience backpacking and thru-hiking. I've completed the AT and PCT and can hike 20-30 miles/day on reasonable terrain if necessary.

The mountains above and to the east of Tucson, Arizona have had water at the end of every November that I've hiked them (the AZT section around Tucson used to be my post-Thanksgiving hike). They were kind of cold and damp at that time actually, though this is a drought year.
