I eventually want to get a wider sleeping pad. I'm a side sleeper. I need the width for the zig-zagging of the hip-to-knees. And I sleep on both sides, reverse in the night—imagine a straight line from head-to-toe oriented with the pad)
What if I get a wide Air Beam and sleep with my head at the narrow end and my legs at the wide end (27" or 28" )?
Main Concern: the height of the pad goes from 2.5" to 1.5" – if I have the shallower end towards my shoulders will that work out OK? I plan to use a thick pillow. If i get the 56" that'll actually just cover me head-toe. The 3/4 length will still cover my knees.
Has anyone tried this? Ideas on why it would/wouldn't work for me? Go with Wide or 3/4 Wide?
Other concern is warmth. Hasn't been an issue for yet for me with pads. Currently using a regular Neoair Xlite, so that's a 3.2 R value vs. unspecified? I'm open to adding CCF, but the 1/8" thin light pads are only 19" wide.
I'll looking more for comfort with this purchase, but don't want to go too far over 16 oz.
Had been looking at various Klymt options, mostly the Static V (again, warmth concern). I'm a quilt user, which make the loft-pocket thing less viable for me.
Neoair Trekker is another candidate. Or just a L/W Xlite. Anything else that should be on my radar?
When i tried an Exped in a store I didn't care for it much. Wonder if the similar long tubes of the Air Beam will not be for me.
