I was looking at this piece for my 3 season jacket. I looked high and low on the internet and could not find much information on this jacket, which is surprising considering the weight of the jacket and the price that goes with it.
So, I was wondering if there is anybody with some first hand experience with this jacket, their thoughts on it overall (pros, cons, comments). Also, I noticed the baffles look rather large, does the down shift and create cold spots? Do you find that the sewn through construction along with the big baffles create a dreadful amount of cold spots? Thanks in advance.

I did see one or two reviews when I looked recently.

I searched for Borah Gear Down jacket review.

I found one review that a woman did, but it revolved mainly around fit, not performance. So any word on performance of this jacket would be awesome! If it helps, I'm planning on using this jacket on my JMT thru hike this next summer

Does the zipper go all the way up to the top of the collar? The pics make it look like it doesn't which was always a deal killer for me. Looks like a great jacket other than that.

I've been looking at these and they compare very favorably to their primary competition (Montbell Ex Light). By my count (size med.):

Borah Gear UL Down Jacket:
=> Weight 5.15oz
=> Fill weight 2.3oz
=> Fill power 850+
=> Fabric 10D
=> Back length 28"
=> Price $160

Montbell Ex Light:
=> Weight 5.6oz
=> Fill weight 1.8oz
=> Fill power 900
=> Fabric 7D
=> Back length 26.6"
=> Price $200

Seems like the Borah Gear wins on nearly all counts. Am I missing something? Any reviews on this piece?

I'll just make a quick comment based on my experience with the vest. I will a little skeptical about the large baffles at first as well, but so far down shifting/migration has not been an issue. I generally shake out the vest a little to fluff up the down before putting it on. If down does shift too much to one place (hasn't yet) the baffles are big enough to easily shift the down around. For pure warmth for the weight, I'm sure my vest beats on the (former) ex light vest, and at 3.6 oz I can't really imagine anything warmer. For price/warmth/weight, the jacket is hard to beat. Its also got a drawcord where the ex light does not. The ex light anorak for 6 oz is excellent, more form fitting, featured and presentable, but more expensive and not quite as warm for the weight.

I really don't find that the baffle spacing is all that big.
It's sewn thru so there really is nowhere for the down to go.

I love Argon fabric as well. I made a down jacket with it and like the fabric better than my MD Ex-lite.

I would personally get the newMB ex light anorak.
Having a hood just works better so I can leave home the beanie.
Unless you like to bring the beanie, the I would support the cottage gear.

It does seem odd that the Borah jacket doesn't get more hype on BPL given the specs (and the price point).

Yeah, I definitely think this sort of niche SUL cottage (and non cottage) stuff allows for some ridiculous weight savings without much loss in functionality/comfort. The design on the vest is utterly simple, but this is what allows for a 3.6 oz vest with about half down. I am definitely thinking I'll try to order some borah pants and ask to see if I can custom fit them. It would be a great addition to colder seasons trips at practicality no weight. I think borah will pick up around here, for sure. I'll add that although the vest is brilliant for supplemental warmth and for its nothingness, like Aaron, I'd rather have a the hooded ex light anorak.

(Man, funny how getting off of the best backpacking trip of my life has got me back in gear geek mode).
