I am considering this quilt I was wondering if anyone has experience with sizing of this quilt.

I am 6' 160lb. Not sure whether I should get the regular size. I am a side sleeper and would like the quilt to cover my face when cold, but I also don't want to leave too much dead space, this is the problem I have with my EE revelation 30* Long Wide. I like it a lot but I think it has a little extra space.

Any advise would be appreciated!

I don't have the Sawatch but I do have an Alsek. I'm 5'10 and 175 lbs. I have the regular size and I can pull it all the way over my head when lying on my back if necessary (though breathing into it like this will get the down wet.) Certainly it's long enough to do this when sleeping on your side too. I don't have any problems with extra dead space. When it's really cold I'll pull the cord clips together until they are almost touching underneath me and it's nice and snug.

I thought it wasn't a good idea to cover up your face in a sleeping bag or quilt due to condensation issues. This is why I wear a balaclava or hat. I could be wrong. .

It's not really an issue if you will have a chance to dry it out the next day. You may get a little cold from the moisture in the early hours of the morning, but not too bad.

Andrews, do you think your quilt gives you enough freedom to move without much restriction. I am wondering if I need to get a wide one because the footbox is slightly narrower than EE.

Also do you know the actual length of the quilt? I couldn't find the information on katabatic gear website.

I had a reg Sawatch and it was plenty roomy (5'9" 170lbs size 12 feet). If you are on a wide pad you should be fine but as a side sleeper I have switched to the wide Chisos and wide Alsek along with a large xltherm and it is very comfortable. I sleep on my side slightly curled up with hands under my chin. The regular width had more drafts with my back and backside sticking out and/or hanging off the pad. Wide/wide solved it and I am more than happy to carry the extra weight for the great sleep it provides.

John, Thanks for the input!

Was the Sawatch too warm?

I guess I need a large/wide quilt then!?

I think a wide would be huge. I'd go for a 6' regular width if I were you. Side sleeping is fine without drafts if you use the pad clips.

I agree, 58" across is really wide! I will probably go for regular Sawatch and hope that it would be long enough and not too warm.

Pouya,
I am a bit over 6ft and bit under 160 pounds and have an Alsek Long. It is a really great quilt for sure but I don't feel I need the extra length. If I were to do it again I would take a regular length and enjoy the lower weight, or take a regular length and a warmer quilt for similar weight.

I wouldn't worry about it being too warm – just open the side of the quilt, perhaps let some of your legs hang out. That is of course the beauty of the system.

With your size and weight I would not go for a long, and certainly not for a wide.
Katabatic makes beautiful gear, doubt you will be disappointed.

I'm 6' and 160 also, and have a regular length/width sawatch. It is perfect. It is probably too warm for midsummer in most places, but perfect for spring/fall when it is likely to get below freezing. I did get a Zpacks goose hood to go with it which I would recommend for colder weather, unless you'll be wearing a jacket with a warm hood.

i’m super short and slim (unfortunately) 5ft 3in or 162 cm and shoulder circumference of 44in or 111 cm
im torn between the short regular or short slim. the regular being because im scared of drafts when i roll.
im kinda a 2 third stomach and 1 third side slipper. weird position i know.

AH – You could talk to Nunatak as I think they will make a quilt to any spec you want.
