I think (but am not sure) that untreated (i.e. no water resistant coating) down with higher fill counts tends to lose loft more quickly than down with lower fill counts (and maybe even feathers) when subjected to moisture (e.g. dew).

Have others observed the same?

I don't have anything scientific to back it up, but that's been sort of the common knowledge/experience that we've heard from a few EE customers. It makes sense, since the micro-fibers in really high fill clusters are more numerous and "more micro" (if that makes sense) than lower fp clusters, so smaller amounts of weight from moisture will more quickly cause them to collapse. But I'd be curious to see at what level it's noticeable, double-blind tests, etc.

In a similar vein, I've always wondered how the service life of high loft down compares. It seems that it would be much more fragile.
