I can see why the UL 90 and UL 180 don't use down – it says in the description for "wet-weather use". But wouldn't the UL60 pack down smaller, keep you warmer, and weigh less if they used down? Is this quilt "less superior" than a similar summer quilt that uses down?

It's not it's purpose. It's meant to be a synthetic piece. Also for some of the "lighter" weight pieces the difference in warmth and weight between down and synthetic gets blurred especially when you factor in the extra weight of baffled construction.
The synthetic bags should not last as long, pack down as small, or be as warm as an equivalent weight down bag. It'd be interesting to know why all synthetic products and no down products at BPL. In the past, I heard Ryan had a bad experience with either a down bag or garment in very wet and/or snowy weather. Maybe he will comment.
