I'm considering a NeoAir XTherm, mainly because of the 70d bottom fabric.

When the NeoAir came out, there was a lot of whining about how noisy it seemed to be.

So I'm wondering –

Has anyone returned or sold and XLite or XTherm because it was to loud to sleep with?

Thanks.

I'm fine with my regular length, used it last winter snow camping. I'll have to get it out and see what noise there was. Love having lost the bulk and weight of a DAM.

I just returned from 9 nights on an xtherm that was new and I didn't notice the noise and it was über comfy – even compared to my ul7 down mat. I purchased the large xtherm and LOVE the extra width. For reference I am 165lbs and 5'9".

Fully inflated it makes no noise.

Partially inflated (for comfort) it makes some crinkling, as you would expect of the mylar internal baffles. It's not obnoxious unless you are very sensitive to nighttime noise.

Under a full down sleeping bag any noise is entirely muffled.

FYI if noise is a concern I think bloggers covering the recent OR conference noted that a version with even quieter material is coming out in the spring.

not an issue at all, for me. And wicked, wicked comfortable, both in the hammock and on the ground!

I feel like mine has quieted down significantly after a season and a half of use. Either that, or I don't notice it anymore.

Either way, I sleep very, very well.

Another vote for "noise isn't an issue" here. I am a pretty light sleeper but it doesn't bother me to be on my XTherm. Either this means (1) my unconscious knows the difference between 'noise I make' and 'scary noises outside' or (2) I keep it pretty thoroughly inflated because my back requires very firm support.

Oh my gosh! Don't buy this pad for any reason!!! It's like sleeping on a potato chip bag!!!

I am absolutely, positively kidding. I love my NeoAir's (including a XTherm). The noise is there, but it stops when I stop moving. I can see it bothering others in a shelter, etc, but I don't get it bothering the user.

When you're trying it out for the fist time inside your house you'll notice it and really be worried. Out in tne field, you'll never notice, no matter how much it's inflated or deflated.
