Edit: Trip got canned.

Folks,

My wife and I are going to be in Salt Lake City at the start of October and looking to do a 3 day trip in the Wasatch Range.

As its my wife first backpacking Mountain backpacking trip I want to keep the mileage down to about 5-7miles per day so looking at 15-20 mile route on easy as possible terrain.

My wife has backpacked a small bit in Michigan (where its mostly flat) but has done plenty of Mountain day hikes back in Ireland and the UK.

Not sure yet whether we will use a rental car or a shuttle.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Stephen

Edit: any information on expected night time temps and whether snow is likely would be appreciated.

Anyone have any suggestions. I have looked online but would appreciate advice from fellow BPL members.

I just ran the Wasatch 100 last weekend, and can say that the Wasatch mountains are quite beautiful and worthy of a trip.
not as rugged as the Sierra that I am more familiar with, but still beautiful.
as I am not a local of the area I can only speak for what I was on, and as we ran point to point I can not offer a loop.
also I don't know the local camping rules.

that said, the Millcreek (Upper Big Water) area out past Dog Lake and out to Desolation Lake would make a decent out and back for maybe 15 miles total.
You could make Desolation Lake your base camp and do an additional hike up onto the ridge to add additional mileage as a day hike if desired.
there is some hill climbing involved, its not a flat hike to Desolation.

Thanks for the reply Art.

An out and back would be fine also.

From the photos I have seen the area
Looks very nice.
