Recently got a hex, and I read all the threads online. I was planning on adding noseeum mesh around the bottom, and wondered if the folks who had done that were still happy with the results. I was also wondering if anyone had come up with a better alternative to the Golite floor. Thanks ya'll.
I just got back from a trip in the Northwest Territories. My guide used an "upgraded" Mega Light, which seems to be about the same tent. The orange mesh aided in the ventilation but this was still a moist shelter. Once erected, he would usually burn a section of mosquito coil, killing all the flying nasties.

I have added a 16" wide bug net to the perimeter of my Hex3. I used the no-see-um net from http://www.thru-hiker.com
I used 16" because that seems to be enough to tuck under the floor.
I suggest that you sew a 1/2" wide strip of velcro around the hem of the tent and along the edge of the netting. That way, you can choose whether to use it or not. Warning: Netting does not like to let go of wet slushy snow that freezes overnight!
When sewing you have to skip over the tent's tie out points unless you have a commercial sewing machine made for really thick fabrics. I have the cheapest one from Wally-world and it worked great as long as I didn't try to sew through the thick tie-out points. Just run the velcro across these areas and continue sewing. This leaves a very small gap at each tie-out but it's easy to stuff a little netting into them.
My advise is to put the prickly part of the velcro on the tent and the smooth part on the netting. Otherwise, the prickly part can tear up the netting when packing and unpacking it.
As to the floor, yeah, it's heavy for such a lightweight tent. But, it is a bomber floor! The last thing I worry about is drowning in my sleep :-) I'm on the east coast so I am no stranger to wet (read swamp) conditions. For that, the floor is the greatest.
Otherwise, I use a tyvek ground sheet. I bought mine by the linear foot from http://www.AntiGravityGear.com It comes in a 9 foot wide roll and I bought 11 linear feet (at $2/ft).
The footprint of the Hex is about 10' from wall to opposite wall and about 12' from point to opposite point. I then trimmed the tyvek to leave about a 6" gap all around. Since the Hex is so large, even the tyvek weighs 11 ounces.
