I saw in a posting on Section Hiker about the Outdoor Retailer Summer 2014 Trade Show and Gear that Therm-a-Rest has announced new sleeping pads for 2015. I have noticed that several retailers have cut prices (Moosejaw and Amazon, for example), which makes me think the new pads might be available before next year. But does anyone have any more specific information about when the new pads might become available?

I've found that new gear generally comes out around the end of February or beginning of March.

My candles are lit. The chant has begun and will cease not until product release.

Thanks, Doug. I'm getting ready for a trip in October. I'll probably have to get one of the current models, then.

Did they announce replacements/upgrades for the XLite series? Or just new pads in general?

The evolite looks like a potential winner. Of the pads available to me, including a Synmat, my prolite 3/4 is the one I always grab. If the Evolite can deliver the low weight of the prolite with the comfort of the Prolite Plus, I'm sold.

As someone who's owned and used TAR self-inflating pads since the early '80s, I will say "self-inflating" has become a misnomer if not flat out false advertising. I leave my prolite uncompressed with the valve open between trips. It will not self-inflate unless it's left in the sun. I very much doubt (but hope I'm wrong) that they fixed this with the Evolite.

With TAR cutting weight, the new foam seems to be one of the culprits. With all that said, it only takes a few puffs of air to fill it up so it's no big deal.
