Shuttle from Anchorage/Palmer to Talkeetnas

Now that the school year has started, I need to put aside my uber-trail-angel activities. But maybe one of the other BPL Alaskans is free that day.

Alaska is more hitchhiker-friendly than most places. As anywhere, some basic guidelines will decrease your wait time many-fold:

Be presentable.

Be visible. In a place where they see you for a while beforehand AND have a safe place to pull over.

Have a large sign that indicates clearly that you only wish to go to "Chickaloon, 25 miles" or whatever.

"I'll pay Gas Money" probably helps, too.

DON'T wear sunglasses.

DO make eye contact. And smile.

Display the most interesting state or national flag that you are plausibly entitled to display. It sets you apart from local, vehicle-less citizens.

Don't have a ton of stuff with you (UL techniques help here).

Solo, I would expect to catch that ride within 30-60 minutes.

Most potent technique: bring a cute woman with you.

Then you'd get a ride within 10 minutes.

NPS lists three shuttle services. Definitely check that they are still operating and that they operate that late in the season.

Thanks for the detailed response, David. I am planning on taking the Alaska Direct Bus Line to Palmer. From there, no plan.

I don't have a problem with hitchhiking. I hitchhiked around Fairbanks and then back from near Atigun Pass (north of Coldfoot) to Fairbanks earlier this year in June. I'm guessing it'll be much easier to get a ride around Palmer then the middle of the Brooks!

Anyways, I was just interested in seeing if anyone was available or willing to make it a little easier. Worst case scenario, I walk. No big deal. Thanks again for the info. I'll look into those other shuttles.
