Over the coming months I'm looking at buying some down to overstuff an aging REI Sub Kilo. I'm curious if anyone can tell me of the various companies that offer it. So far I've found the following:
DownLinens which has great prices per ounce but only sells by the pound (which is significantly more than I would need)
ThruHiker sells high quality stuff at higher prices and in 3oz quantities (a little less than I think I'll need)

Is there anyone who sells down by the ounce? I know that's a lot to ask for but by the time I buy two packs from Thru Hiker I may as well buy a Pound from DownLinens and end up with way more than I need.

Looking for something in the 800 fill range. No need to break the bank with 900 fill when when I'm just adding to what was already in the bag (not sure of the original fill but I know it wasn't 900!)

Thanks Jerry!
That's pretty much exactly what I was looking for; Quality Down at a reasonable price, sold by the ounce.

I noticed yesterday that Quest now have 900 WR Down, in either 3 oz or 1 pound bags. Both prices are very good, the 1 pound option is a steal for 900 FP WR. Doesn't say which company its from, but I'm guessing its probably HyperDry from Allied Feather as I haven't heard mention of Down-Tek selling a 900 option as yet. Not that it probably really matters unless you are really pushing the envelope (like deliberately wearing down whilst Canyoning through melting glaciers above the arctic circle!).

Adam, thanks for another option though if buying by the pound you'll find that downlinens sells a 900fill dwr down for about $15 less.

Hard to justify that nice of down in this case since I'm not sure what was originally in the bag. Also, I can't imagine a dwr down being very effective when most of the down around it is the standard variety.

Regardless of all that, its nice to know what all the options are, so thanks again for pointing out another one.

Does any one know of a source for cheap, cheap, low-grade down in less than pound quantities?

I'm interested in testing some new baffle ideas for loft and down mobility in 1 – 2 sq yd prototypes, so I don't need much.

I found a source for 80/20 down/feathers but that was still by the pound for ~$90.

Rene-

Look for down pillows on eBay. Several 500-800fp options for cheap.
