i know this is a subject discussed at great length(and ive read alot of the threads that come up during a search) but am hoping for input for my personal situation.
i continually get condensation in the footbox of my bivy. my bag ends up a little damp, not bad, but alot of water on its shell and inside the bivy. tigoat raven. western mountaineering versalite.
this last weekend for instance 2 nights in a row. mid 40s at night. 1st night it had rained on the hike in. we set up in sheltered timber though. low pitch with roof vents wide open.
awoke to no condensation in tent but wet footbox. not touching tent anywhere.
layed everything out that afternoon to dry.
set up camp on a high ridge, high pitch, roof vents open. stuffed synthetic puffy in footbox. storm came through. woke up again, wet footbox.
what am i doing wrong!?

My bivy use is limited to the USGI bivy. The only time I see condensation with that one is when I breath into it so I haven't experienced the problem you're describing.
An old trick I learned in the military to help keep my feet warm was to put them in a waterproof bag. This creates a VBL of sorts but only comes up knee high so I wasn't swimming in it.
If your condensation problems are limited to your feet, try sleeping with your feet in a garbage compacter bag or cut off the bottom portion of a SOL emergency bivy but use it inside your sleeping bag.
If that doesn't work, you may want to add better ventilation to your bivy ala a noseeum netting strip down the middle. I believe Chad Poindexter did this to his Borah M50 bivy; you may want to reach out to him to see how that worked out.
why are you using a bivy if you already have a shelter over you?
Perhaps the puffy made you slightly too warm in the feet area.
That's enough to create major condensation. Possible?
i run a pyrmid shelter, bivy provides floor, protects bag from incidental rain and wet gear, keeps it clean, and most importantly, keeps me on my pad during rodeo sleeping.
thats possible, i didnt have it in the foot the night before, or other nights ive had condensation though. i like to put on a warm jacket when breaking camp for an early start.
ive considered trying this. my only worry is the damp enviro keeping my feet damp and therefore soft. maybe that isnt the case, but its what has stopped me so far.
I use bivy under pyramid for same reason
M50 which is DWR and somewhat breathable
Never really notice condensation
WPB bivies are less breathable
if it's really cold, you'll get more condensation
If you have too much insulation you'll sweat and get more condensation

so all that makes alot of sense. going forward what can i do? i really like being in the bivy and staying on my pad. something that i was never able to do before.
secondly, i dont have the balls to run a lightweight bag in the cascades as i never know what its actually going to do. some nights its 45. some nights its 27.
my bivy is the tigoat raven. im not sure if it is the older pertex or the new impetus. would a more breathable bivy help or am i just chasing my tail down that road
my buddy, who runs a complete different body temperature than i, had no condensation either night (marmot helium/borah m90 bivy)
hes a cold during the day, warm sleeper vs i run 1000* all day and freeze all night
Does your bivy have WPB fabric? Is there a membrane? or is it just fabric?
If it's WPB, then maybe you should get a more breathable bivy.
Can you try your friend's and see if you get condensation?
Hate to go buy something new and then find it has the same problem.
i could possibly try his although in my research of the fabrics they do not appear very different.
heres the fabric description
The top is made from Aspen Green Impetus 1.1 — 15d x 15d silicone treated fabric that is highly
water repellent and breathable. The bottom is Dark Grey Impetus 1.2 — 15d x 15d waterproof
fabric that is silicone coated one side and PU coated on the other.
