So, I was able to get a good recently and have been picking up pieces on sale I have wanted to get over the last year. I went with all Outdoor Research stuff because 1.) I am tired of having to rebuy pieces because they do not preform or hold up longer than a few years and with OR I do not have to worry about this with their great warranty and 2.) because their XXL seems to fit like an XLT which what I need for my 6’5” 235# self.

I picked up some s/s OR Echo shirts and they have been very nice here the last few days where it has been about 90F and around 80% humidity. Even the l/s zip neck one I bought in white for bugs and sun has done pretty nicely.

I also picked up an OR Revel rain jacket because my Golite Tumalo was already starting to delaminate the welded seams after less than 4 years. I know the jacket weighs close to a pound but the only other jacket I was interested from them was the Helium HD which I could not find on sale anywhere on an XXL. Construction is a lot better than the Golite even though it does weigh a few more ounces but it is a jacket that I no longer have to worry about. I mainly use a tarp/poncho when I go out nowadays above 45-50F so it will be used for more for the time around freezing.

I also picked up an OR Transcendent Hoody in XXL which should be arriving today. My hope is that I can layer it with a baselayer underneath and possibly my R2 and still get it under the Revel. If not, I will still be happy as I think as I can probably take that combination down to about 10F if standing around.

I am thinking about getting the Maestro to take that down even further though. I wish OR had a hooded windshirt so it looks like I will be going with a Marmot Ion in XXL.

Are there other things I should be looking at?

I have some of every segment of OR's product line and I believe in all of them. The pack that I liked the idea of but thought it needed some tweaking… got tweaked and fixed hat I thought was wrong with it. The keep tweaking and dialing stuff in. I've never had construction issues, or any defects. I own, or have owned prolly 30 or 40 items including stuff sacks, dry bags, summit packs, and of course gloves, hats, gaiters, balaclavas, jackets and pants. Base layer, mid layer, shell. Casual pants, Lightweight shell pants, bomber softshell pants… a bit of everything.

I really think they make great products. If you get something and use it for its intended use, it will work.

Now that their website has been fixed its actually helpful too! (it only took three or so years lol)
