I've owned both R1 and R2 products, but I have no experience with the Polartec Micro Grid that Melanzana uses for their Hoody. Therefore, I asked the folks at Melanzana for info on how Micro Grid compares to R1. In case it will be of help to anyone else, here's a snip from the response that I received:

Our Micro Grid fabric is actually lighter than the R1. It is 100% polyester where the R1 has some spandex mixed in. Therefore, it does have more stretch than the micro grid but it is heavier. We like the micro grid fabric because it is light weight, keeps you warm, and is very breathable.

Melanzana is the company I was looking for.
They have some nice clothing.
