Hello all, I have a really stupid question (what with how dry our winter was and how hot our summer was). I'll be heading into the high Sierra the Second week of September and I'm wondering if there is still any snow anywhere. I don't mean on the ground really, I'm more curious about on the sides of mountains…like mini glaciers.

I'm going to try and get landscape photos and I like it when the mountains have at least a few patches on them. I'm basically wondering if the higher mountains still have their small glaciers on them (sorry, I'm forgetting the proper term for it).

Last summer I started a trip around August 9th. I went up pretty high in some places but didn't see a even a tiny speck of snow anywhere.

There is almost no snow left anywhere in the Sierra Nevada. You might find a few micro-patches, but only above 12,000 feet. There are glaciers, but they are ice, not snow. The Palisade Glacier would be the first place to start looking.

Nearly all of the glaciers in the Sierra Nevada are on the north, northeast, or east sides of the peak. So, think about that when you think about where the sunlight will be.

Justin, that's what I was afraid of.

Bob, thanks for the great info. I'm trying to plan my photo ops before I even go up there. That will definitely help with what to look for.
