I am hiking JMT wondering what latest conditions for ferry are at VVR
no answer from their phone and got a couple of conflicting reports.
Any latest news

Heading back out later tonight

Important: This was current as of late July, but I have not seen any updates to their site/FB page.

When I went, they were indeed running morning ferries, leaving the resort at 8,9, and 10. (I.e. picking people up from the trail area to go in to the resort at 9, 10, and 11). I got picked up by the 11AM one, so that one at least exists.

They had taped signs to the trailhead to this effect when I was there, so if there has been any change, you will likely see something indicating this earlier rather than later (so you won't be sitting for hours on the shore hoping that a boat comes). The signs weren't SUPER consistent with respect to the times being run, but I would bet money that they'd update the signage if there was a closure of some kind.

TL/DR version: There's nothing that suggests that it's not running, but if it is, you'll almost certainly know before you go too far down the side trail.

Also, it's worth noting that the guy who picked me up said that, if someone called, he'd come out at any time of day if it's safe (apparently the lake gets too choppy in the afternoon, which is why they're only doing AM ferries). You'd need AT&T for this to work, and their satellite phone needs to be working too (it's not always.)

I would be very hesitant to trust anything you hear on the trail unless it's from a someone coming the other way who's been there. When I did my JMT thru, the rumors about the VVR ferry were nothing short of spectacularly inaccurate.

I hiked the JMT up to VVR finishing a week ago. I didn't take the ferry (hiked over Goodale Pass instead) but I talked with people who did. The ferry is running in the morning, and they did at least three runs the Friday I was there. I didn't see anybody come in past noonish, so the previously mentioned 11 AM cutoff may be in place. I would get there early.

Lake Edison is very, very low, so they'll actually drive you the last stretch up to VVR. I heard from several people that the ferry meeting point was very difficult to find, so keep a sharp eye.

Ferry pickup is simple to find. It is marked with flagging from Edison lake trail to a flag on the
Take bed. They will come get u at any time when u call if wind allows the small boat to do so.

The lake is low, the end where they run across is deep, it was a quarry where they got the stone to build the dam. Edison has more go
Volume of water than florence due to this. They drive most of way on lake bed.
