Just got back from a trip. The plastic bag I ended up using to line my pack was scented, unfortunately.

Now my gear smells like fake lemons, particularly my pack.

Tips for getting rid of it?

(At the last minute I used my quilt storage bag as a liner over the liner to minimize the smell transfer to my other gear, that's why the pack got it the worst)

Sounds like you got a perfumed trash compactor bag. I would start with good DWR-safe wash like Tech Wash or Sport Wash in a laundry tub or the bathtub. I do everything I can to minimize the wet time when washing packs to protect the coatings. I let it drip dry for 15 minutes or so and then wipe all the surfaces with a bath towel to absorb as much water as possible, getting down into the pockets and corners and giving the padded sections a good squeeze with the towel, but no wringing. The toweling will greatly reduce the drying time. I would then hang it outdoors in a shady spot like a porch to air dry and as open as possible. Direct sun and the UV will help to kill odors, but I would try to keep that to a minimum as the UV is hard on the fabric and coating too. Dry first, then turn the pack inside-out and maybe hang for an hour in the sun, but not all day. If it still smells, store it hanging inside out indoors and hope that time helps. Gentle and moderate are the rules.

Thanks Dale.

[edit: i figured out how to remove the stays and turn my pack inside out]

Yeah, I was dependent on someone else for compactor bags. Too late to remedy by the time we were leaving, and rain was on the way.
