I have lately acquired a "new" sewing machine, a Pfaff 130 that came without a case. It likely came out of someone's table–it has a knee activated pedal. Without putting an excess of labor into this new family member, I'd like to put it to use soon rather than later. I saw a 24 x 48 x 21/32(?) laminated pine board at Home Depot whose sharp edges I could route off before pairing it with folding table legs, also from HD http://www.homedepot.com/p/Waddell-Folding-Banquet-Table-Legs-2-Pack-2775/100048820 . Does 21/32" seem a bit thin? Will it hold my new tool?

Any other ideas? Thanks. Jeff

PS, I looked on Craigslist, which has sewing tables and machines with tables that just don't have much real estate, nor leg room. Would like to git'er done and use this thing. I almost wish I'd bought a Sailrite 111.

I thought that the standard was a ping pong table surface on top of any other table.

The 130 is sometimes mounted in an industrial stand with large motor. If you found one of those stands for cheap it would be cool. Also you could have one fitted by a place that sells industrial machines. If you are a wood worker you could make your own like you suggest. Commercial industrial standsPFAFF STAND are just melamine laminated particle board about 1 1/2 inch thick.

sewing table isn't that important

layout table is more critical. Nice if it can be wider than fabric, which is nominally 60" but can be 66", so a 72" table would be good. 4' in the other direction would be convenient because sheets of wood are often 4' x 8'. 8' would be even better but hard to find a place for something that big

"layout table is more critical. "

Good point. I use the floor for layout which allows me to walk on the layout surface–I can't fall off and no storage space required–dual use.

I may lay the 24 x 48 x 21/32 pine lami board on a pair of plastic saw horses already lying around. Right now, maybe practice cutting out a Pfaff sized hole in a piece of scrap lumber & preparing the mounts.

Jeffery, I have a commercial table that had a Pfaff 130 in it, I sold the machine but still have the table with the motor, make me an offer $25.00? is that to much? I live in Bakersfield Ca. you would have to pick it up because the size and weight would cost to much to ship.

Comes with extra pulley and 2 belts.

Pfaff

Jack,

I love your table, and would grab it in a New York minute if I lived within 3 hours. If I knew someone who was moving from there to here (Washington state), I'd have them pick it up.

thanks for asking.

Jeffery,

It's not going anywhere soon, so if you find someone give me a shout.

Jack
