Hey y'all,
I've just ordered a hexamid twin tent from Joe at Zpacks and am wondering if I can pitch it was two fixed-length trekking poles. This isn't much of a deal I realize for the front pole(my fixed length poles are already the correct size for the front), but according to zpacks, the rear pole must be retracted to 32' in order to fit the cuben-pole-holster-thing. I've seen some pictures where the tent is pitched with two fixed length poles, but the attachment to the back pole appears to be different than what is seen in Joe's demo video. I currently use GG LT3C poles and do not want to replace them if I don't have to.

This is where I found pictures where two fixed-length poles are being used (and what a perfect pitch this is!!)

Is there any owner of a hexamid twin who may be able to enlighten me on this topic? Again, I'd really love to not replace my lt3c poles.

I have the Twin and use adjustable poles with them but don't see any reason why you couldn't tie a clove hitch or similar knot around the rear pole before staking that guy line to the ground.

I will try it this was for my next section AT hike and see how it goes and will follow up on it! Thanks again

Is there any more advice on this topic from anyone else?

The tent is designed (as you can see on the Zpacks website) to take a shortened pole. The ends of the rear pole sit in fabric pockets, the rear guy line is attached to the upper inverted pocket. So the fabric pockets won't hold a full-length pole.

But I think you've somewhat answered your own question with the link to that review, no? He seems to have removed the upper fabric pocket, tied the guy line directly to the tent, and wrapped the guy line multiple times around the pole. But I've never tried this, I don't know how secure it would be.

If you don't have time to test it out thoroughly, the Zpacks carbon fiber tentpole for the rear weighs just 0.9oz. Just order one and take it with you in case the full length pole doesn't work. I'm sure Zpacks would let you return it if it turns out you don't need it.

You could simply have joe attach the rear pole pocket with an adjustable strap so you could put it at whatever height you need, as opposed to the fixed attachement. It might not draw the top quite as taught due to different angles, but Im pretty sure it would work.

Or, carry a very small collapsible pole for the rear , probably weigh 2-3 oz in ultralite pole form.

Thanks so much for your help guys! I was asking more because I've already ordered the tent (and it shipped!) but I had forgotten about the trekking pole situation! I'll see how it works once it arrives!
