Will the standard 'backpacker meals (e.g. Mountain House) rehydrate cold? A permit came up for the Wonderland and I don't have time to do elaborate meal prep. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as what meals work well and which to avoid?

Thanks.

Packit gourmet has a whole section of cold water meals. Couscous also rehydrates cold very well.

Tabouli is another inexpensive grocery-store, rehydrate-cold, serve-cold option.

Another very cheap, grocery-store item for no-cook menus is instant cheesecake. Not the packaged ones. Just a box of instant pudding, made with cold water instead of milk (use a little less liquid to set up sooner) and don't bother with a butter-and-graham-cracker crust, just sprinkle graham-cracker crumbs on top. If you want, mix in dehydrated berries in the pudding mix.

"Couscous also rehydrates cold very well."

As does cracked wheat(bulgur).
