dang autocorrect…

So after not digging the trailstar I am dead set on getting one of the above shelters. I will try and get a duo mid off of here for a trip in a week, but if not I was wondering if the in stock oware 8×8 pyramid would do the trick as well. The weight is comparable to me but the aware doesn't have a vent, doesn't have the linelocs i don't believe, and then there is the obvious shape difference. A 5×8.5 vs a 8×8 square. Using this primarily as a solo shelter I don't want to have an excessive amount of space like I felt with the trailstar, but still have enough to squeeze in two in a pinch, which is exactly what the duo mid is. the 8×8 seems like it could accommodate 2 comfortably wight the added concern of it not being long enough for someone like me at 5' 11''. Has anyone used the 8×8 and found it not too much width for solo use or too little length for a 5' 11'' length person on a ridge rest?

Thanks

I have MYOG 9 feet long. I would never make it shorter.

About 1 foot all around isn't very usable because the walls slope up and rain can splash in a little

it seems like 8 feet is too short, 8.5 feet better

Can you set up Trailstar so it's an 8 foot or 8.5 foot pyramid shape and try it to see what you like? I hate buying a new thing, then deciding it's not so good and soon buying another

I have a Oware 9×9 and a Trailstar. (I'm 6')

I sometimes find the TS a little too short really when pitched tight for bad weather.

I also have a Golite Hex 3 (8'3") which is just OK as it is steep sided.

You may find an 8×8 Oware ok – the pole height means it is also steep sided. The 9×9 has plenty of room.

I've also owned a Solomid, but sold it on. But I've decided to save for the Solomid XL.

To add to the mix, what about an Oware Alphamid or a Golite Shangri-la 2? Both are as light or lighter then the Sil Duomid and comparable in size.

I also feel that the Shangri la 2 is much more comfortable for 2 than a duomid…great shelter for the weight. (and cost, especially on the swap)

The shang 2 has the following issues for me:
1. no trekking poles so this would require 2 separate cf poles
2. Walls are steeper and catch more wind, not a significant issue but a con vs the duo mid

The alpha mid has the same issue with wind but to a greater extent.

I agree the space of the shang 2 or a largish alpha mid would be exceptional for 2. However I want a shelter that is quite livable for 1 and acceptable for 2 for shorts periods of time.

The whole conversation unfortunately has become mute because someone has offered to sell there duo mid to me and I am very happy indeed.
