That's a shame it did not work out Rick,

I live in the Michigan boonies and the nearest REI is 2 hours away so often order kit and return it when I go to Detroit for gigs so no big dal for me.

I ended up ordering the large even though my torso is about 18.5". The large fits me and also has slightly bigger capacity. Maybe not the lightest, but a great budget option if it fits you.

I ordered a medium as the size chart had it as the same size as my medium Flash 45 which fits perfectly.
If it does not work out I will return it.

I picked one up last year in medium but torso is way too short, load lifters attached lower than my shoulder tops. So I tried the large and hip belt was too big. I don't know who this is designed for.

day pack still has some life left in it.

Just got the pack in ands its definitely too short, as its unisex I will see if it fits my wife and if not will return it.
