I've toyed around with the idea of taking an 8×10 tarp this year instead of a tent too.

I saw you have a filter, platy, and disposable bottle. Are you using a sawyer bag for your dirty water?

I found my platy threads onto the Sawyer and I've always used it as my dirty water anyway. I'll probably throw in my Chlorine Dioxide at the last minute too for another couple ounces.

This is my first tarp venture. It isn't so much for weight, it doesn't save me much, as it is for a change up and some experimentation fun.

OK have fun. Many people have indicated that the old Platy threads work but the newer ones, while they appear to fit, don't and will leak dirty water into the clean.

I use Evernew bags for that very reason.

Have fun on your trip and maybe I'll see you out there as I'm shooting for early September for my walk-up permit.

I'm aiming for a Aug 29th kick-off date. I'm walking up too because my submitted itinerary was kicked-back by the National Park.

I'm going down the night of the 28th and trying to make arrangements. If I cannot somehow manage a workable schedule I'm going to come back north and execute Plan B. What is your planned dates? I'm planning a 6-7 day hike so I was hoping to be out on the 5th of September.

My Platy is pretty old. Probably 6-7 years old so I assume I have the old version. It works perfectly without a leak so I'm running with it.

As long as I clear my workload with my co workers, the boss is pretty lenient on letting me take leave with little notice. I'm shooting for a 5-7 day itinerary and hope to knock it out in the first couple weeks of September. I'm just going to keep an eye on the weather forecast and jump on the trail when it seem to be at its best.
