Made some silnylon rain pants with vents in the inseam. Used 30D silnylon from DIY Gear Supply.

3/8" no curl elastic for the waist.

The vent flaps overlap by about 1.5" and the inner flap edge is rolled and sewn in a way that dripping rain will roll down the edge and out the vent instead of inside the pant leg.
The overlapping flaps are also sewn down/together in the middle so it doesn't flap/gape open.

Total weight: 84.1g/2.97 oz before sealing seams. Will seal them later.

Hopefully these will keep me nice and dry and minimize sweatiness.

Very nice! Please update when you have a chance to use them in the field.

Hey And E I have enjoyed following your posts on all your MYOG. I especially like the BP projects. Other than the normal stuff sack projects we all start sewing one of my first MMOG projects was a pair of LT WT rain paints. Coincidentally I modified my 4 piece pattern to a 2 piece for only 2 seams as well. "Seamed" like a no brainer, pun intended. I made them liberally cut to cover pants if needed. I didn't want elastic on the bottom but I will be adding some LT WT Velcro strapping to cinch the bottoms if needed.

Here are a couple pics of the pants. I don't have much more to show as Im just getting back to BPing last fall and have not had the time to sew but this winter will be a marathon of catch up :) Just to show off a few other non BPing MMOG gear projects look for my post in "Other Activities", MYOG for sailing. Didn't want to bother others here with off topic stuff. Thanks for looking and keep me inspired.

Those are some mighty fine seams, Jimmy! I wish my seams were that neat and straight!

I just go "eh, close enough" with most of my projects since only I'll be able to see the seams anyways.

Thanks man, they took me a LONG time to sew. I have a electronic control on the machine that lets me chug along at a snails pace. Wish I could sew fast like the pros but that's ok I enjoy the time I spend on making stuff as I'm sure you do. I like those vented pants you made.

I'm trying to work out a pair of pants that would work like convertibles but not have to completely zip off the lower legs. I hate having to dig them back out of the pack and zip back on. I was thinking of some kind of inseam zip and a pocket above the knee they could roll up and stuff in. Then just grab the leg out of the pocket zip and go. Could be done while still wearing the pack and not having to sit down either.
