I have a second generation sawyer squeeze bag and wanted to use a hole punch to make a hole in the flap portion at the bottom of the bag to pass a string. It looks like I won't ruin the bladder. Any opinions? Thanks.

I don't have any experience with Sawyer Bladders personally. I punch holes in Platypus bladders for hanging though and have never had an issue. If the new style of Sawyer Bladders are similar, you shouldn't have problems with punching into them. Just make sure you leave plenty of space between the holes and the inside and outside edges of the bags.

I would suggest punching two – 4 holes instead of one, so it will spread out the stress put on the bag as I did in the photo.Hanging Strap

Sure that's what the little cutouts are for. I used mine on my thru hike last year with no problem. I only cut out one.But I did use a packs harbinger to hang.

Dennis,

I did this years ago on my 1st generation Sawyer "black" inline filter.

I reinforced the holes with metal grommets from Joann's Fabrics.

Think they were gold/brass colored.

Added a little bit of weight, but never had a problem with ripping the hole out while hanging from a tree as part of a gravity filter setup.

An alternative that might be a little messy is to use Gorrilla tape to cover the hole and then punch a hole through the Gorrilla tape to give some reinforcement to the hole you have in the water bag.

Tony
