Two friends who decided to get married in Lake Tahoe, made me decide to make their wedding a good excuse for an extended summer vacation and backpacking trip to what they call the High Sierra. Early conservation pioneers of the west and the work they did are fascinating to me. That famous photo of Teddy and John Muir standing atop Overhanging Rock are on my wall. Muir once wrote,“But no temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in its wall seems to glow with life.”

I wanted to see that.

Great trip report. Sad to read about both those bad encounters.

Too bad about Red Peak Pass. It has been on my bucket list ever since I read that one of the older guys who has been on the trail maintenance crews for years said that that was the trail he thought was the best in the park. I suspect his values had a hefty does of professional pride, so part of that is probably the craftsmanship. Still, I want see it.
