Only two things I would change about these wonderful poles:

1) Make the grips as comfortable in my hand as my mid-Nineties model Komperdell poles

and

2) (surprise) the weight, while lighter than my trusty old Komperdell's, is heavier than I'd like it to be

************************

So I took a utility blade to the lower foam portion of the grips. While my older poles didn't have this "extension" and I never needed it, I decided to do this mod half way, in case I decide I like the grip. If I find I don't use it during a 10-day trip I have planned, then I'll remove it fully.

.

..

Was it worth it to remove .1oz from each pole? Sure, but I wish I saved a bit more.

Any problems in the process? Only two issues, neither of which were major. The adhesive takes some rubbing to get off (no chemicals or thinner) which creates sore finger tips. And second, I accidentally (& I knew this would happen) cut a tad too deep when slicing the neoprene foam and and etched a thin, barely visible, line in the (epoxy / lacquer?) finish on the outside of the poles.

Note: the 2nd pic shows the adhesive before I rubbed it off. It all comes off, don't worry.

Yeah, I would cut the foam grips off too. Im a big fan of Leki and just picked up a new set of womens cork handled poles. Real comfy when gripping pistol style going down hill. I wouldn't have any need for additional foam grips. I only use the regular handles and have been for years. I did however shave about an ounce off the pair by removing the heavy straps and using some 1/2" webbing I had hanging around. I could ditch the straps all together but find them useful. The thinner softer webbing is much more comfortable as it doesn't rub across the back of my hands.
