Long time lurker, I decided that it was time to finally join and start posting. My girlfriend and I decided to head to Emigrant for a quick overnight for the Fourth of July. We drove up to Kennedy Meadows, slept in the car, then hit the trail on the morning of the fourth (after a massive breakfast at the Kennedy Meadows Resort).

Relief Reservoir
A few miles down the trail above Relief Reservoir.

Looking south toward Granite Dome, the off trail route to the lakes around Granite Dome is hidden behind the peak on the left.

contact
Cool contact between granite and what I believe are lahars.

We followed the trail past Relief Reservoir to Summit Creek. We continued along the trail until we reached a fork in the creek where we left the trail and aimed for an obvious saddle to the west.

We have been to Emigrant before but this was our first time heading out of the Kennedy Meadows trailhead. We loved the bar and restaurant at the resort- the massive amount of horse crap on the trail near the trailhead, not so much. All in all it was a great quick trip and we will definitely be going back.

Cool trip Matt, I've been meaning to make it to Iceland Lake for awhile, still haven't gotten around to doing that trip. I'll have to get breakfast at the resort next time too…

Hi. Matt. Nice report. What were the night time temperatures? Were Mosquitos a problem? Thanks.

I didn't check the temperature at the coldest point of the night but my guess would be mid 50s. The mosquitoes were bad near the lake when the wind died down in the evening. We were glad that we brought our head nets.
