New to fancy/modern wrist watches, am I asking too much?

For a long time now I have not been interested in a wrist watch after breaking several in not too long with heavy use back when I started backpacking in the 90's. But in fairness, they were cheapo watches and I was much more reckless back then. Plus now as technology marches on there seem to be some pretty nice/tough watches out there.

So now I figure I would give them another try. I will save battery on my cell phone, as I frequently check the time on that, so with a watch I can turn it off and only use it when needed. Plus having other features is nice too. So here is what I am looking for:

100 bucks or cheaper–might be willing to go as far as 120 if it's a watch that is built to last.

Waterproof

Accurate thermometer with metric units

Pedometer with metric units

Long battery life (or maybe no battery required?)

Stopwatch timer and alarm (though guessing all watches have this?)

Would prefer digital with big numbers, and option for military time.

Now obviously I can just Google search this for a while, but would like to hear from those of you that perhaps own watches that are the same or similar to what I am looking for. I plan strapping the watch to my shoulder strap of my backpack while on trips, and might remove the wrist straps in favor of string.

Any recommendations or tips would be much appreciated :)

I think the one request that is going to give you problems is going to be the pedometer feature. From what I've seen you basically have two options for pedometers, fitness trackers and gps watches.

Fitness trackers would fit in your budget but most don't even have a watch function let alone the other functions you want. On the plus side, battery life on most of the better fitness trackers is pretty good.

GPS watches have most of the things you're looking for but generally are far more than your budget allows. The lower end forerunner watches and a couple of others can be found for around $130 but I don't see any of those that have thermometers. Big downside = potentially horrible battery life if using tracking.

EDIT: So as I was writing this I did a bit more research and found an option that might work for you. The Tech4o Traileader watches. They are a bit above your price range, the jet is currently on sale for $130. But they have a lot more function than what you were wanting including compass, altimeter and berometer.

I don't have one, but was looking into watches a while back and you might look into the Casio PAW1300. No pedometer, but meets all your other criteria and has Altimeter/Barometer as well. Has solar charged battery so doesn't really ever need changed. Looks like it can be had for around $150. I know a few people on here have one so maybe they can chime in.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I have a feeling it's going to take me a while to decide, given all the options out there. I am also tempted to buy the smallest version of a digital watch, thermometer, and pedometer–might be both cheaper and lighter?

Garmin Vivofit

I don't have personal experience but one of my friends uses it to track steps/calories etc.

I've had this LaCrosse model for about a year now and it's held up very well to daily use/abuse:

It has an altimeter, compass and thermometer. Mine is still running on the original battery.

As for a pedometer, it's hard to beat an old school hip mounted unit. This one runs forever on a single coin cell battery and is surprisingly accurate:
