Has anyone tried the Bushbuddy combined with an alcochol burner?

It seems to me that someone around here tried it, but it was pretty sloppy trying to get the alcohol to work (though a syring might could work).

In reality, you're going to severely reduce the performance of ANY alcohol stove by dropping inside the BB. If you want all three, go Tri-Ti. BB is shear elegance for Wood (and is passable for Esbit, if you take along some extra bits), however it's finiky at best for Alcohol. Tri-Ti is pretty good for all three.

Now, having said that, there's not stopping you packing a small alcohol stove (maybe a whitebox or gram weenie… though the GM wou;dn't work for a large pot) and a windscreen INSIDE a BB. That's be a way better way to do it.

I've been wondering if you got to fire up the your new Tri-Ti? I am anxious to hear how it performed. Are you going to be the first to post a review? I am curious it performed using alcohol because of the larger opening as well as how the wood burning compared to a BushBuddy

Yes I have tried it out. My Triangia burner sitting on top of it's snuffer thing inside the BB works phenomenally well. I wasn't using the snuffer top at all before. Just the cap without the O-ring. (If you put the cap on upside down with a pot gripper it's easier to blow out) This system will get me through the areas with burn bans. BTW the Bushbuddy is a great device. Used it on my last trip with my 23 y/o son. The ONLY problem that I had is that my son had so much fun cooking with it that I hardly got to cook.

What you are describing is essentially 2 systems….the BB, and the alcohol stove. There is no need to bring the BB along if you plan on using the alcohol stove. Just bring a separate pot stand. If you want dual use for a long hike, go with the Tri.

Yes, I know that it is 2 systems. But the Bushbuddy is a lot less weight than the alcohol fuel. But for those times when I can't burn wood it's an elegant solution. I plan on just filling the burner and a 30 cc bottle with alcohol. Note that the O-ring is out of the cap!

Well you're sort of right Pete. But … #1 I have a Bushbuddy. #2 I have a Triangia burner. #3 I don't have a tri. #4 My lovely wife might get a bit ticked off if FedEx shows up at the front door with too many gadgets. Some meals I cook, Some meals I don't. So the meals that really need to be cooked during fire-bans, rain or whatever are going to be few. That's the reason for so little alcohol (approx 3 meals). The majority should be ok with wood.

Cornelius, you're correct the Trangia would make a great, completely self-cotained "backup" fuel source for the BB when in fire ban areas.

Thanks for posting the pics. That does push the burner right up into the good distance from the pot…
