I have some SilNylon and have planned to make a fairly large (10' x 12'), 2-3 person Ray-way tarp. I notice, though, that a lot of tarp users who post here and in other forums use traditional flat tarps. I've seen lots of pics of a variety of configurations but the majority are "flat" (includes catenary, any tarp without fore and aft beaks).
I have used both on weekend trips, neither in more than light rain, and don't really have a preference. Before I begin construction, though, I would like to hear some opinions of why one was chosen over the other (less weight being a given). Also, what's your experience with your chosen shelter (e.g. rain, wind, biblical plagues)? Apologies to TarpTent, poncho/cape and pyramid/tipi fans: much love, but I'm just looking at these two right now.
