Moving slow but sure :-)
Ridge maker is set up and working well. Next week I’ll start testing with the BGET(Brian Green Esbit Tray) and the Modified StarLyte Burner.
I bought ten cones and pots. One set I will use for testing. I’ll have 9 available for purchase. Price has not been established.
This is what it looks like in the cone:
Mar 12, 2016 at 10:18 pm #3388728Looking good Dan. Are the 9 available to purchase for the folks who chimed in on this thread or for the rest of us who were too damn slow?
Mar 12, 2016 at 10:19 pm #3388729The ridge looks really clean. Very exciting!
Mar 13, 2016 at 10:41 am #3388799When the time comes, I’ll contact all who indicated in this thread that they would want one and then go from there. I’ll post the results one way or another. Cost has not been determined yet.
How much does it weigh? :-)
Cone + Wrap = 18gr
Pot/Lid =61gr
StarLyte Burner/lid = 16gr
BGET + container = 9 gr
1 fuel bottle (1 fluid oz) with turret dispense cap
Stuff sack 11gr
Total = 125gr (4.5 oz.)
The kit will consist of the above pieces and also will include 3 cubes of esbit.
The fuel bottle stores nicely inside the wrapped Caldera Cone.
Mar 13, 2016 at 12:19 pm #3388826Looking good Dan. Will wait to hear from you.
Mar 13, 2016 at 1:01 pm #3388841Nicely done. For what it’s worth, I’ll throw my name into the “I’m interested and take my money please and thanks” hat.
If there are any left from this run.
Mar 13, 2016 at 1:59 pm #3388855A week or so ago I made this list of Toaks pots with the same diameter. The Trail Designs Caldera Cone will fit sideways in all of them….just a thought :-)
Another thought……..hot air rising up the sides of the pot prevents loss of heat contained in the water which is inside the pot.
I have a mechanical device that attaches securely to a pot below the handles that will support the pot when using a Caldera Cone. I will introduce that device at a later time(next month)

Mar 13, 2016 at 3:03 pm #3388867Matthew,
over the years we’ve read how the “beer bands” have melted. A few min. ago I was reading about that in this thread:
Mar 13, 2016 at 5:02 pm #3388894So Dan, all those Toaks pots have the same diameter such that all you need to do (if possible) is to put a ridge in the pot (or apply the mysterious device you will tell us about in the future) such that the pot will sit 2 inches above the ground (or the stove) in a standard caldera cone (for this purpose) that will fit in any of these pots? Very tempting for me!. Would you be willing to provide the service you mention where we send in the pot of our choice with return postage and you can crease it at the proper level or do you think your device would be a better/easier alternative? Would Trail Designs possibly just sell the cone?
Mar 13, 2016 at 7:12 pm #3388927Let me know when it’s ready Dan. I’m certainly still up to buy one if I made the initial list. Looks great.
Mar 16, 2016 at 2:21 pm #3389568Testing has determined exact location for the ridgeline and the pots have been completed.
I’m going to add a silicone pot grabber to the bundle to aid in your initial testing of the kits. ;)
By the way, the 1oz fuel bottle has a dispense cap that also fits a yellow “HEET” bottle. :-)
By this evening, I will have determined cost of bundle and compile a list of those who wanted one.

Mar 16, 2016 at 2:36 pm #3389572Nice work, Dan. Looking forward to hearing what the final setup costs and weighs. My PM with you expressing interest doesn’t show a date, but I believe my posts in this thread have me in line with one in this first batch.
Mar 16, 2016 at 2:53 pm #3389577They look great! I’m looking forward to ordering it!
Mar 16, 2016 at 5:51 pm #3389630Cost = $89.95 + $4.00 shipping

Mar 16, 2016 at 6:56 pm #3389648Cool, I’m very excited to get one of these sets. One question, how much volume is below the ridgeline, around 3/4 to 1 cup?
Mar 16, 2016 at 7:36 pm #3389669Hi Chad, 3/4 cup to the line.
I could put a partial ridge at 1 cup if that would make it interesting.
Mar 16, 2016 at 8:06 pm #3389676“I could put a partial ridge at 1 cup if that would make it interesting.”
Nah, not necessary. I’ve gotten pretty good at eyeballing volume with the 550 pot. Thanks for putting this together.
Mar 16, 2016 at 8:41 pm #3389681Yeah I don’t need a line. My pot has some boil marks in it from past cooks.
Mar 16, 2016 at 8:58 pm #3389688Since it looks like I didn’t make the ”9″, put me in for the 2nd batch.
Mar 16, 2016 at 9:22 pm #3389694Since it looks like I didn’t make the ”9″, put me in for the 2nd batch.
Mar 16, 2016 at 10:18 pm #3389704I’m still very much interested Dan and will send payment when I get the link. I’ve always liked the Light Trail version and I think this kit really takes it to the next level.
Thanks for the hard work.
Mar 16, 2016 at 11:26 pm #3389719Okay, I promised to buy one for Jennifer. Let me get her address and I’ll order it.
BTW, I got one of those bands from Dan in 2012 they’re pretty nifty. But I think mine weighed about .8 ounces.
Mar 17, 2016 at 6:28 am #3389744Nick, she might prefer to be naughty than nice :-) If she decides to be nice then I’ll go halves with you ;-)
The band is just for initial testing at home. The bundle comes with 3 esbit, so testing can begin asap.
Mar 17, 2016 at 6:50 am #3389745I’m still in, sent me the link when ready.
